US 'deeply concerned' about possible Palestinian evictions in East Jerusalem

(MENAFN) On Friday, May. 7 the US raised alarm at the possible evictions of a number of families in Palestinian-majority neighborhoods in occupied East Jerusalem.

State Department spokeswoman Jalina Porter said to reporters: "we are deeply concerned about the potential eviction of Palestinian families in the Silwan neighborhood and in Sheikh Jarrah, many of whom have lived in those homes for generations."

She further said: "as we have consistently said, it is critical to avoid unilateral steps that exacerbate tensions or take us further away from peace, this includes evictions, settlement activity and home demolitions."

The Israeli Central Court in East Jerusalem endorsed a decision to force seven Palestinian families to leave their houses in support of right-win Israeli settlers at the beginning of this year.
