Iran: Over 80 percent of cargo transportation in world set through sea


(MENAFN)More than 80 percent of cargo transportation in the world is managed through sea that underlines the importance of maritime transportation, according to recent data.

The number is 90 percent in Iran and it is why the development of ports and maritime activities is attached high significance in the country.

Iran's maritime transport is considered very significant due to the country’s good access to the open waters in the south and also Caspian Sea in the north that permits international trade amid Iran and Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Also Iran's geostrategic position in the north of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf that is of great significance in international energy trade increases the possibility of the country advantaging from maritime transport.
