Spotlight on Qatar's museums at Arabian Week


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Museums in Qatar will be one of the highlights of the second edition of the annual Arabian Week being organised online by the Arabic Studies Research Group at the University of Warsaw in Poland.

The event taking place from May 10 to 14 via Facebook and YouTube is under the patronage of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Warsaw, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Doha and the Qatar-Poland Business Council. 

Qatar will have a special day at the event which will be on May 12, during which a number of topics on museums in Qatar will take the spotlight.

One of the main subjects to be presented during the day dedicated to Qatar will be the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in which the MIA building and the architectural inspirations behind its stunning design will be featured. 

MIA's most important and interesting exhibits contained in its permanent exhibition galleries as well as fascinating its temporary exhibitions. The event will also shed light on what distinguishes MIA from other institutions of this kind in the Gulf region.

The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) will also be at the core at the event, giving particular attention on the novelty and architectural inspiration of the building, the museum's rich collection, and the NMoQ as an important way presenting Qatari history.

Focus will also be on Msheireb Museums: the history behind the complex; what museum visitors can admire and how smoothly they can go through different periods in Qatar's history. The event will also centre on how the country acquires new exhibits as well as plans for the creation of more museums in Qatar. 

Marking its second edition, the annual event will present Arabic cuisine, literature, music, and dance among others.

Other focuses of the five-day cultural event are Syrian cuisine and traditional Dabke dance. 

The week will also witness an interview with famous Polish-Lebanese composer and conductor Bassem Akiki, as well as with prominent Polish-Iraqi poet, translator and author Hatif Janabi.
