Rise witnessed in global food prices for 11th straight month


(MENAFN) On Thursday, May. 6 the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) stated that global food prices in April rose for an 11th consecutive month, driven by robust rises in the prices of sugar, followed by oils, meat, dairy and cereals.

Hovering 120.9 points in April, the FAO Food Price Index witnessed a climb of 1.7 percent or 2 points from a month earlier.

The FAO Food Price Index is a trade-weighted indicator that monitors international market prices of five key food commodity groups.

The figure rose as much as 28.4 points – 30.8 percent – from the very period of 2020.
