DIFI concludes discussions on building sustainable marriages

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Doha International Family Institute has concluded a Ramadan virtual discussion series examining the topic of marriage and marital education programmes in Qatar, and the importance of building happy, healthy, and sustainable relationships.

Building on Doha International Family Institute’s (DIFI) recent international conference on Marriage: Formation and Constitutes of Stability, the series was made up of three sessions.

Dr. Sharifa Noaman Al Emadi, Executive Director, DIFI, said, ''The impact of media and social media on the institution is increasing. He referred to formal statistics that show more than 50 percent of divorce cases in the Arab region happen in the early years of marriage.

The first symposium, titled ''Stable Relationships = Happy Marriages”, discussed the roles of compassion, forgiveness, affection, and care in marriage, through communication and shared family responsibilities. It involved a discussion between Dr. Al Emadi; Dr. Mohamed Al Anazy, a psychologist; and Ms. Reem Al Bannow, a relationship coach and alumnus of Hamad Bin Khalid University.

The second symposium, exploring ''Why are pre-marital education programs important in maintaining stable marriages?”, featured a discussion between Dr. Shafi Al Hajri, Associate Professor of Islamic Culture, Qatar University; Mr. Ali Al Suadi, a pre-marital education programme attendee; and Dana Al Kahlout, Advocacy Manager, DIFI. The speakers addressed the importance of pre-marital education programs and highlighted their positive impact on marital formation and stability.

The final symposium, titled ''Who doesn’t face marital disputes? They key is learning how to deal with them!”, addressed the causes of marital disputes and highlighted approaches towards managing them with the aim of achieving marital stability and happiness.

The discussion was conducted by Dr. Al Emadi; Aref; and Hanadi Mulla Yousef, Professor of Computer — Ministry of Education, State of Kuwait.
