J&K Logs Highest Daily Covid Tally of 4926, 52 Deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported on Thursday the highest ever single-day spike in coronavirus cases as 4926 more people tested positive for infection while 52 others succumbed to Covid-19 in different healthcare facilities in the Union Territory during the last 24 hours.

According to the officials, 34 people died due to coronavirus related complications in Jammu while 18 succumbed to the deadly infection in Kashmir Valley pushing the overall fatality count since the outbreak of pandemic last year to 2562—1068 in Jammu division and 1494 in Kashmir.

In Valley, they said, the victims included a 30-year-old from Pulwama, who died at SKIMS Bemina, a day after she was admitted to the Covid-19 management facility here.

Three more persons—a 74-year-old man from Chanapora, an 85-year-old man from Beerwah Budgam and a 67-year-old man from Nawab Bazar also died at SKIMS Bemina, three days after he was admitted to the facility.

A 65-year-old woman from Kanipora Nowgam died at SMHS hospital, five days after she was admitted there, officials said. A 78-year-old man from Malbagh Srinagar died three days after he was admitted to the SHMS hospital, they said.

A 40-year-old man from Dalgate died six day after his admission to SMHS hospital, they said.

Also, they said, an 80-year-old man from Chattabal, who was admitted with a bilateral community acquired pneumonia also succumbed at the same facility.

Two deaths were reported at GMC Anantnag and the victims included a 60-year-old and a 62-year-old person respectively, they added.

About the fresh cases, officials said, 3241 were reported from the Valley and the remaining 1685 were detected in Jammu division, taking the number of people infected by virus in J & K to 201511.

Giving district wise details, the officials said Srinagar reported 1070, Baramulla 353, Budgam 605, Pulwama 171, Kupwara 124, Anantnag 314, Bandipora 90, Ganderbal 126, Kulgam 218, Shopian 170, Jammu 617, Udhampur 121, Rajouri 232, Doda 51, Kathua 200, Samba 131, Kishtwar 36, Poonch 124 Ramban 108 and Reasi 65 new cases of coronavirus.
