Illegal sea trafficking of Syrian refugees thwarted by Lebanese forces


(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Lebanon's security forces foiled an attempt to traffic 40 Syrian immigrants by sea to Cyprus.

The 40 Syrians were detained near the beach in Anfeh in the district of Koura in northern Lebanon, before they reached at a boat waiting to deliver them to Cyprus; Xinhua news agency quoted a security source as saying.

The detained people had been shifted to a security center for inquiry, where they acknowledged that their target was Cyprus.

The Lebanese army, on April, seized a boat carrying 72 people in in the northern district of Akkar, attempting to sail to Cyprus.
