Chinese food sector maintains growth in output, sales


(MENAFN) Figures from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) demonstrated that Chinese food sector maintained strong expansion in terms of output and sales in the first three months of 2021.

The MIIT said that the manufacturing added value of key food producers climbed 17.4 percent annually in the period, and that of agricultural byproduct processors rose 15.2 percent annually.

Retail trade in the industry recorded speedy expansion in the January-March period, with sales of grain, oil and food commodities increasing 10 percent annually to 414.44 billion yuan (around USD64.08 billion).

MIIT figures demonstrated that retail trade in the beverage industry rose 35.7 percent annually, reaching around USD9,9 billion, while sales in the tobacco and alcohol industry recorded a 44.9 percent annually rise to around USD18,74 billion.
