Volume of e-commerce in Turkey to surpass USD49B in 2021


(MENAFN)Engin Aksoy, the CEO of GSM operator Vodafone Turkey stated that the rate of e-commerce in Turkey is estimated to surpass 400 billion Turkish liras (USD49 billion) in 2021 and double again in 2022.

He stated in a virtual event managed by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges that E-commerce in the country increased by 64 percent in the first half of last year in comparison to same time span of the previous year and surpassed 91 billion Turkish liras (USD11.1 billion). It stood at 200 billion Turkish liras (USD24.4 billion) in last year.

He further declared that "Recent studies show that the ratio of the number of people using e-commerce to the total population reached 36.5 percent in 2020. That is, one in three people in Turkey uses e-commerce. We think this growth and momentum will continue."

Businesses carried their digital investments forward six years to quickly adapt to the new normal, he said.
