(MENAFN) India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that on Wednesday, Apr. 28 a 6.4-magnitude quake shook the Indian northeastern state of Assam at 07:51 a.m. local time.
The information issued by NCS noted: "the epicenter of the earthquake was Sonitpur, Assam located at 26.69 degrees north latitude and 92.36 degrees east longitude," further saying: "the depth of the earthquake was 17 km."
The quake was also sensed in neighboring states.
The tremors jolted the whole state and reports noted panic-hit people ran out of houses and buildings to gather in open streets.
