Russia detains Ukrainian ambassador

(MENAFN)Russia's security agency stated on Saturday, April 17 that it detained the Ukrainian consul general in Saint Petersburg over spying claims.
According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), Alexander Sosonyuk was arrested "red-handed" at a gathering with a Russian resident while trying to get sorted information, counting statistics from Russia's law enforcement agencies and the FSB databases.
The FSB declared that "These activities are incompatible with the status of a diplomatic employee and are clearly hostile to the Russian Federation".
It added that his case will be regarded as in agreement with the rules of global legislation.
The Vienna Convention offers for immunity to ambassadors in countries of their work, but they can be deprived of the right to stay in a country in case of breach of local law or aggressive actions.
