U.S. welcomes arrival of Pfizer vaccine in Ukraine under COVAX program - embassy


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The United States welcomes the arrival of Pfizer coronavirus vaccines under the COVAX program in Ukraine.

The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine wrote this on its Facebook page, Ukrinform reports.

'The United States welcomes the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines from COVAX in Ukraine today. Vaccines are critical to ending this pandemic, and the U.S. is proud to support the global effort with its $4 billion contribution to COVAX through USAID US Agency for International Development, reads the report.

The embassy added that the today's delivery of Pfizer vaccines is part of global vaccination effort to keep people safe.

'As the world's biggest donor to COVAX, the United States works alongside the global community to ensure equitable vaccine access, reads the report.

As reported by Ukrinform, the first batch of a coronavirus vaccine made by Pfizer-BioNTech was delivered to Ukraine on April 16.

According to the vaccination plan, the first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is intended for vaccination of residents of boarding houses, as well as employees of the State Emergency Service and State Border Guard Service.

In total, Ukraine expects to receive 8 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under global COVAX initiative.
