Intl community's decisive reaction is key to preventing escalation in eastern Ukraine Zelensky


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has informed European Council President Charles Michel about the aggravation of the security situation in eastern Ukraine and stressed that a strong and adequate response from the international community is the key to preventing further escalation.

This was said during a phone conversation between the leaders on April 15, the Ukrainian president's press service reports.

"We appreciate the European Union's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. A decisive and adequate reaction on the part of the international community is a guarantee of preventing further escalation and saving lives, Zelensky stressed.

The key focus of the conversation was on the aggravation of the security situation in eastern Ukraine. Zelensky briefed his interlocutor in detail on the developments that have taken place since the joint visit of the leaders of Ukraine and the EU to Donbas on March 2 this year.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Charles Michel also discussed the initiative of the Crimean Platform and its content.

In addition, the interlocutors agreed to approve shortly the date of the 23rd Ukraine-EU Summit to be held in Kyiv in the second half of the year.

As Ukrinform reported, European Council President Charles Michel paid a two-day visit to Ukraine on March 2-3.
