Canadian trade shortfall rises in 2020


(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Apr. 14 Statistics Canada said that the Canadian foreign trade shortfall jumped to 37.3 billion Canadian dollars (around USD29.8 billion) last year from around USD12,31 billion in 2019.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic effect, the value of the country's yearly exports declined 12.4 percent last year to around USD419 billion whereas yearly imports declined 8.5 percent, hitting about USD448 billion.

When foreign trade in commodities and foreign trade in services are joined together, the country's overall foreign shortfall climbed to around USD35,8 billion last year from about USD29,5 billion in 2019.

The Canadian whole trade activity, comprising exports and imports, declined from around USD970 million in 2019 to around USD869 million last year, a decrease by 10.4 percent.
