Kyslytsya: Ukraine is interested in US contacts with Russia

(MENAFN - UkrinForm) It is important for Ukraine that U.S. President Joe Biden conveyed the U.S. position on escalation on Ukraine's eastern border during a conversation with Putin on April 13.

"Ukraine is interested in the United States' contacts with Russia, otherwise there will be a no-win situation," Sergiy Kyslytsya, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, said in a comment to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York.

According to the diplomat, Biden is not ready now to talk about visiting Moscow or welcoming Putin to Washington. Therefore, it was decided to offer Moscow a meeting 'on neutral ground. According to Kyslytsya, this could be a meeting on the sidelines of an international event or in a bilateral format. 'In any case, for such a meeting to take place, it should be preceded by a long preparation of its content," the diplomat said, "I don't think Washington is interested in impromptu.

'The current situation is seen as a threat to regional security, i.e., a threat to the entire Black Sea region and Europe, he noted.

According to the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, consideration of the situation in the UN 'is logically preceded by the use of the capabilities of regional organizations. In particular, Kyslytsya noted, the Vienna Document is currently used at the OSCE level, according to which a signatory country may request an explanation from another signatory in case of troop movements or other actions related to military activity. However, Moscow ignored such a demand in 2014, he reminded.

As Kyslytsya said, Kyiv is constantly coordinating the actions of foreign diplomatic missions concerning increased Russia's military activity along the border with Ukraine. Ukraine, he noted, maintains close contact with the United States and European members of the UN Security Council.

On Tuesday, Biden held a conversation with Putin, during which he reaffirmed his support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and offered to hold a meeting in a third country in the coming months.
