Suez Canal Authority claims USD916M in compensation for lost revenue


(MENAFN)Suez Canal chiefs applied an Egyptian court order to take hold of the giant cargo ship that closed the waterway for almost a week in March.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is havingUSD916 million in compensation for lost revenue, damage to the canal, equipment and labor used to free the ship, and reputational harm.

The Ever Given container ship was in a lake amid two sections of the canal since it was removed on March 29, as the SCA had opened an investigation.

The SCA applied a compensation claim and the ship had not been given clearance to leave, stated Yumi Shinohara, deputy manager of Shoei Kisen’s fleet management department.
