(MENAFN - The Conversation) Areas of Interest
A new research direction that I am working towards this year: 1) To interrogate the role of urban sports spaces in addressing issues of environmental sustainability and human-animal relations 2) To interrogate the power relations inherent in the multispecies contact zones of urban sport spaces. I will be considering the spatial, political, economic, ethical and environmental dimensions of non-human animals and more-than human actants (actors that have agency- e.g., plastics, waste pollution) in the social and cultural practices of urban sport spaces. These interconnecting concerns- of animal welfare, consumption, and environmental degradation have local and global significance for cities, public space and urban sports complexes.

Research Areas
I have researched and published in the following areas: Geographies of health in urban spaces; young people, health, school travel, urban environments and neighbourhood change; spatial and ecological determinants of health and physical cultures; critical animal studies and sport; qualitative methods (e.g., discourse analysis, critical visual methodologies, spatial and institutional ethnographies); genders, sexualities and the body; locker room spaces; play, pleasure and public health.
