Qatar- Customers flock to shopping centres for Ramadan deals


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Shopping malls have witnessed a great turnout by consumers in the past few days as people stock up ahead of Ramadan.

Some consumers usually wait for the last few days before Ramadan because most stores offer more goods on promotional prices. Several consumers have praised the efforts made by Qatar and shopping centres in providing goods, especially the essential products during the month of Ramadan.

'There is a clear diversification this year in the products offered from many countries, and the prices are also reasonable. We choose the last days before Ramadan because in this time, commercial complexes offer more products and at sales prices, said a shopper at a local hypermarket. He also said that 'the varieties of products will raise competition in the market and sets reasonable prices for consumers.

For his part, Ahmed said that because popular markets are closed on Fridays and Saturdays, due to the preventive measures to curb the COVID-19 spread, many people patronise the shopping malls more despite the reduced capacity.

'Thanks to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for the discounts on consumer goods. This will help several families take care of their needs for Ramadan this year, he added.

The MoCI launched the discounted goods initiative to cover the essential commodities consumed during Ramadan, such as flour, sugar, rice, pasta, chicken, oil, milk, and other food and non-food items whose consumption increases during the holy month.

According to the MoCI list, QFM Flour No1 (5kg) will be sold at QR16; QFM whole wheat flour (10kg) at QR22.25, R S Olive Oil (500ml) at QR11.25, Yara pure sunflower oil (1.8litre) at QR15, Baladna fresh yogurt full fat (2kg) at QR10, Dandy Laban - Airan (2litre) at QR6.75, Lurpark butter (400gram) at QR14.25, Dandy orange juice (1.5litre) at QR8.25. Meanwhile, there has been a great interest in the national product as the Ministry continues its support of Made in Qatar commodities. So far, many of these locally-produced items have been introduced into the hypermarkets and shops, recording significant patronage from locals.

The local products come fresh and are of high quality, compared to similar imported products, especially vegetables. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the commercial complexes have applied strict measures to ensure the safety of the shoppers and their staff, according to the directives of the relevant authorities
