Lebanese, Syrian leaders address sea border separation over phone

(MENAFN) According to Lebanese caretaker Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe, Lebanese President Michel Aoun has made a phone conversation with Syria's Bashar al-Assad to argue the separation of Lebanon-Syria maritime boundaries.

The call came after the Syrian government gave a Russian oil company the green right to launch oil exploration in a doubtful maritime area on the Mediterranean.
Wehbe said that Lebanese president confirmed in his call with Assad that "Lebanon won't accept to diminish from its sovereignty over its waters”, Lebanese private MTV reported on Tuesday.

The foreign minister confirmed that his country sticks to demarcating the maritime borders via negotiations.
Wehbe said "The last resort would be to seek international courts,"adding that Beirut will not attack Damascus over the sea dispute.
