Saudi Arabia plans to increase generation capacity of renewable energy sources


(MENAFN)According to SPA, a report by Riyadh Chamber stated that Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program is planning to SR60 billion (USD15.9 billion) values of project investments.

More than half of families in the Kingdom preferred to use solar power in their homes, the report stated.

It also added that the Kingdom plans to improve the generation capacity of renewable energy sources to stand at about 58.7 gigawatts by 2030, of which 40 gigawatts (GW) would be from solar and 16GW from wind energy and the balance coming from other renewable energy sources.

The newspaper reported that the renewable energy market in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries has came on at 17 gigawatts and stands at 70 gigawatts in the wider MENA region.
