Turkey urges to end violations of international law

(MENAFN)According to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Greece’s practice of pushing back refugees to Turkey came to a violation of the 1951 Refugee Convention, the European Convention on Human Rights, and European Union law.

Anadolu Agency asked UNHCR spokesperson Boris Cheshirkov at a conference in Geneva on Turkey’s appeal to halt Greece from forcing back refugees from its borders.

He also declared that “The situation with pushbacks at both land and sea borders of Greece is one that we have been following closely over the last year,” stating that the UN agency has showed concern over the matter.
