Palestinian cause was through tough test -- Arab League chief

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian cause was subjected to a "tough test" over the past years due to an "unjust American policy" that disregarded basic core principles namely justice, said the Arab League Secretary General on Sunday.
That policy viewed the cause "with Israeli eyes with no regard whatsoever to the history of the conflict, its basis or the principles of justice and fairness," said Ahmad Abul-Gheit in an address to the 13th session of the board of trustees of Yasser Arafat Foundation.
Now, there is a looming chance to "correct the path and launch a genuine process designed to find a final and just settlement to the cause, rather than continue aimless negotiations," he added.
The aspired two states' solutions will not be available forever and the Palestinians might eventually shun it if they find no clear political horizon for materializing it in the future, Abul-Gheit cautioned.
The national Palestinian "project stands on solid ground for it is a civil struggle that promotes a legitimate right, he said.
Abul Gheit was alluding to pro-Israeli measures that had been taken by the former US administration of Donlad Trump that recognized "Jerusalem as capital of Israel," stopped financial contributions to the UN agency for refugees that cares for Palestinian students and shut down the PLO offices in the US.
