Jordan- Border guard foil infiltration, drug-smuggling attempt


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Feb 27 (Petra) –– Northern Military Zone troops, in coordination with the General Customs Department's Anti-Smuggling Directorate and the Anti-Narcotics Department thwarted an attempt to infiltrate the border from Syria and smuggle in large quantities of drugs in the last 48 hour.
An official source at the General Command Headquarters of the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army said that troops, based on previous intelligence information, applied the rules of engagement, forcing the smugglers to retreat deep into Syrian territory.
A search of the area uncovered 746,000 Captagon drug pills, 29,529 pills of the narcotic substance Jalica, 14,800 palerica drug pills, 1,679 pills of the narcotic Erica and 159 pills of the narcotic Gabalier, which were transferred to the competent authorities, it said.
The army command said that the Northern Military Zone has dealt with three infiltration and smuggling attempts in the past 72 hours, and foiled them all, reiterating that the armed forces are ready round-the-clock to deal with full force with any such attempts and hit with an iron fist on those trying to undermine national security.
