Jordan participates in meeting of Arab committee for Management of Geospatial Information


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Feb. 24 (Petra) - Participants in the meeting of the Arab Committee of United Nations Experts for the Management of Geospatial Information in Saudi Arabia called for the compatibility of national geodetic references with the global geodetic reference system and its framework.
The meeting, held via Zoom and attended by Director General of the Royal Jordanian Geographical Centre (RJGC), Colonel Engineer Muammar Kamel Haddadin, discussed a request for the nomination of the two vice-presidents of the Arab Committee of United Nations Experts for the Management of Geospatial Information, Jordan and Algeria, for membership in a high-level group for the Integrated Geographic Information Framework Spatial
Participants also discussed the work outcomes of technical teams of the Arab Committee represented by the working group on institutional frameworks and legal regulations, policies, awareness and capacity building, the working group on basic geospatial data and standards, and the working group for the geodetic reference framework, in addition to the working group on the integration of geospatial and statistical information, as well as hosting the ninth meeting of the Arab Committee in February 2022 in the UAE.
The meeting approved the request of Libya to join the working groups on institutional frameworks, legal regulations, policies, awareness and capacity building, basic geospatial data and standards, the framework of geodetic reference, and integration of geospatial and statistical information.
The meeting also agreed to amend the name of the first working group to the working group of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework, and also approved the work plan for 2021-2022.
Fourteen Arab countries participated in the meeting, including Jordan, in addition to the Statistical Center of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and others.
Geodesy is one of the geoscience that specializes in determining and measuring the size and shape of the globe, as well as calculating locations of points with high accuracy, and measuring and describing the Earth's gravitational field and its changes.
