U.S. airstrikes claims 7 lives among IS insurgents N. Iraq

(MENAFN) The Iraqi military said in a statement that the led coalition targeted an IS hideout in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk with a number of airstrikes, leaving seven insurgents killed.

The media office of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a statement that the international coalition aircraft fired eight airstrikes on an IS base in a rough area named Wadi al-Shay in the southern part of the province, acting on intelligence reports.

The JOC statement added that an Iraqi army force was deployed to the scene and discovered bodies of seven militants, as well as two explosive belts, ammunition, and weapons caches.

The mountains and immense rugged areas in the north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad have witnessed intense activities of the IS militants during the past months, despite repeated military operations to hunt them down.
