Pakistan- KP govt to introduce mobile app to curb harassment in universities


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is introducing a mobile app to curb harassment in universities.

This was stated by Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for Information and Higher Education Kamran Bangash in an interview in Swat.

The special assistant said the mobile app will be introduced to protect students from exploitation and harassment and to improve the environment. He said the government considers establishment of new universities and strengthening of existing universities essential in view of the growing trend of higher education among the youth. He said it is imperative for the universities to strengthen their internal systems and be self-sustaining in all aspects.

Mr Bangash said universities should strengthen their internal system to meet contemporary standard of higher education. He said the Engineering University in Swat would set an example of self-sustaining under vision of the chief minister. He said that university has recently signed an agreement memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an American university to provide an international standard learning environment to students and provide them chances to learn from each other's experiences. He said the agreement would provide technical assistance to the university.

Mr Bangash said the government is promoting tourism in Swat, and taking steps to protect the natural beauty of the valley from all kinds of challenges. He said action is also being taken against illegal mining and encroachments to preserve Swat River's natural structure. He said tourism would get further boost with the completion of development projects, especially Swat Motorway Phase II.

The special assistant further said that evening classes have been launched in colleges and the number of such colleges will increase from nine to 24 next year. He said economic zones are being set up across the province, which will provide job opportunities to the youth.

Meanwhile, Kamran Bangash inaugurated media housing society at Dangram area of Mingora in Swat.

Speaking on the occasion, he said welfare of the journalists is one of the top priorities of the government, and for this purpose, all the necessary steps are being taken. He said the government was aware of the problems faced by the journalists in Swat.
