The delegation of Qatar to the meeting was headed by HE Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chairman of Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations Dr Ahmed bin Hassan al-Hammadi.

In a speech to the meeting, HE al-Hammadi stressed the need to address manifestations of extremism, racism, xenophobia and discrimination, which are one of the main pillars for achieving the goals of the United Nations and other international conventions. He explained that Qatar has pursued a policy of moderation, tolerance, building bridges of trust and acceptance of cultural, civilisational and religious differences between peoples, as it is proud of hosting more than 2mn people from different regions of the world.

He added that in the framework of Qatar's partnership with the international community to address the challenges resulting from intolerance, discrimination, extremism and hatred, Qatar has established national and international institutions that have contributed significantly and tangibly to achieve the goals of the international community.

HE al-Hammadi went on saying that among these Qatari institutions are the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue and the Hamad Bin Khalifa Civilisation Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark, which aims to support international efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between religions and establish a culture of dialogue and love among peoples as well as the establishment of the Arab Cultural House in Berlin, adding that Qatar hosted in 2012 the Fourth Global Forum for the Alliance of Civilizations, which contributed to laying the foundations for the work of the Alliance, and the Qatari Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations was formed in order to complete the country's efforts at the national level.

HE al-Hammadi concluded his speech by stressing that Qatar, which has committed itself to be a partner of the international community to eliminate racism, xenophobia, intolerance and discrimination in all its forms and manifestations, will continue its efforts to spread the values of tolerance and respect for others, build bridges between all and achieve the goals of the international community in peace, security, development and human rights.
