Cold weather in US causes energy crisis


(MENAFN)Bitter cold across the US set off an energy catastrophe unlike anything observed in years in the world's largest energy-consuming country.

The National Weather Service, about 154 million people were under weather attentive as of Monday.

On Monday, over 5 million customers across the US had no electricity because of stern cold and snow in such states as Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas – most of them Southern states unaccustomed to such cold.

More than 15 people dead since previous week due to weather-related causes, including traffic accidents.
