Doha: The Land Customs Administration at the General Authority of Customs (GAC) started the commercial cargo movement through the Abu Samra border yesterday.
Activities to facilitate the commercial exchange procedures (import and export) between the State of Qatar and Saudi Arabia began following the conditions announced by the GAC.
This development comes after the decision issued by the government of both countries in January to open the Abu Samra and Salwa borders. The border has since been receiving travelers from both countries.
Based on the travel and return policy to and from the State of Qatar, applicable in light of COVID-19, and after coordinating with the relevant parties of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), it has been decided to apply various regulatory and preventive controls and procedures regarding the movement of imported and transiting goods from Salwa border port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Abu Samra border port in the State of Qatar.
Murshid Shaheen Al Kuwari, Director of the Land Customs Administration, said that as soon as instructions were received to open the land port between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the Land Customs Administration addressed the appropriate departments to coordinate the return of work and to determine the readiness of customs operations inside the port. He also said that many x-ray inspection devices have been provided recently, working according to the best international specifications.
The commercial cargo movement started at Abu Samra port according to specific requirements and procedures, including that truck drivers coming through Salwa border port must obtain a certificate authenticated by the Saudi Ministry of Health, proving that they have tested negative for COVID-19, at least 72 hours before the date of entry into Abu Samra port.
Al Kuwari added that all exporters of goods through Abu Samara to the Salwa port should comply with the instructions issued by Saudi Customs before proceeding to export or re-export the goods, to avoid any delay or rejection of the goods upon arrival at the Salwa port.
Within the framework of completing technical equipment and customs procedures, the Information Systems Department at the GAC has carefully reviewed all systems, devices, networks, etc. The Authority also made sure that all updates of the Al Nadeeb system have been completed; and provided all necessary measures like sterilizers, protective masks, gloves, and others.
