(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Radio celebrated the 10th edition of the World Radio Day, which falls on February 13 annually, under the theme 'New World, New Radio.
Qatar Radio participated alongside other countries in events at the international level, in co-ordination with Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, Unesco and the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) affiliated with the League of Arab States.
It also prepared a special programme on radio and social recovery at the ASBU level, and it was broadcast through the electronic union system to be accessible to all countries.
The programme shed light on the effective social dialogue and co-operation between radio and the listener and how it can be a cause of social recovery. The programme was presented by Badriya Hassan and directed and prepared by journalist Ahmed Adnan.
A programme, New World, New Radio, was also produced at the ASBU and Unesco levels, by Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, and broadcast on Qatar Radio. The programme dealt with the topic of the revival of radio to keep pace with the developments of the new world, to remind how closely this medium is related to human history, and to keep pace with the various developments that have occurred in our societies.
Qatar Radio also participated through journalist Ahmed Adnan in preparing a programme about the Gulf with all Arab countries, in co-ordination with Iraq Radio.
Qatar Radio's social media department, under the supervision of the head of the department, Iman al-Kaabi, produced an informative documentary video that reviewed the radio's journey past and present, and recorded interviews with prominent media figures such as veteran Qatari journalist Hassan Rashid.
Qatar Radio news department, under the supervision of news monitor Majid Jabara, participated by launching four documentary reports and interviewing prominent media professionals such as Mubarak Jaham al-Kuwari, Abdul Salam Jadallah and Hassan Rashid.
Unesco said the radio contributed, during the pandemic, to the dissemination of reliable information about the coronavirus, awareness of necessary precautionary measures to curb its spread, and the broadcast of lessons and educational courses in many countries to ensure the continuation of education.
