Envoy offers Panama as business, investment haven for Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Panama will continue to forge robust ties with Qatar as both nations celebrate 19 years of diplomatic relations Monday, according to Panama ambassador Musa Asvat.
As the Central American country's top diplomat here, Asvat assured the embassy's keenness to build on Panama and Qatar's growing economic and trade relations and 'solid relationship.
'As ambassador of Panama since last November 2019, my primary mission is to forge a solid relationship with both countries and offer Panama as a place for investment and business opportunities, Asvat told Gulf Times in a statement.
According to Asvat, Qatar and Panama have signed seven agreements in various areas since both countries established relations 19 years ago. He said Panama expects that during the administration of President Laurentino Cortizo, 'diplomatic relations can be identified with the 16 draft agreements pending signing.
'Likewise, from our Mission, we work together with the Panamanian Chancellery Headquarters to carry out the necessary steps to implement and finalise said agreements, Asvat noted.
He said diplomatic relations were established under the administration of President Mireya Moscoso and the embassies were inaugurated under the administration of President Ricardo Martinelli in 2012.
'The Panamanian State wants to commemorate this date by confirming the friendship between both nations has been based on mutual respect, since we share fundamental values and principles, in addition, beneficial cooperation for both countries can be explored in the area of investment promotion and protection, technical cooperation, scientific, educational, cultural, and tourism to continue strengthening our bilateral relations, the ambassador pointed out.
According to Asvat, Panama and Qatar are 'small but strategically-located countries that exercise a fluid function of economic and geographical connection in their respective regions.
'Panama is the gateway to the East in the Americas thanks to our solid platform for maritime transport, services, logistics and finance, coupled with excellent air connectivity with the region and the world. Qatar has consistently advanced to be at the centre of the economy and international diplomacy for its huge gas reserves, resilience, and ability to innovate, he said.
Asvat added: 'We can mention that in terms of cooperation, the Panamanian school Centro Educativo Básico General Bilingüe Estado de Qatar, located in the District of Chepo, Naranjal community, was established on December 10, 2018.
'I use this happy occasion to replicate the appreciation that Panama grants to its sister country Qatar and we reiterate the invitation to visit Panama. In this way, we can promote the development of commercial and cooperation links between both countries in all areas of common interest.
