Syria: 8 militants killed by Syrian forces in desert region


(MENAFN) According to a report by state news agency SANA, on Wednesday, Jan. 27 the Syrian forces killed eight militants, who belonged to a group of militants that have newly launched assaults on military and civilian buses in the desert in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour.

SANA stated as quoted by a military report that following a "precise" operation, the Syrian military in Deir al-Zour find the "terrorist group" that had launched assaults on civilian and military staff on the road between Deir al-Zour and Palmyra city.

The statement noted that road between Palmyra and Deir al-Zour has become totally safe.

The Islamic State (IS) has newly increased assaults on the road in the desert, leaving many soldiers and citizens dead.
