Iraq: int'l coalition airstrikes leave 7 IS fighters dead


(MENAFN) According to the Iraqi military, on Saturday, Jan. 23 two U.S.-led coalition airstrikes in northern Iraq left seven militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group dead.

The media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) stated in a brief report that according to intelligence reports, the U.S.-led coalition aircraft carried out two airstrikes, one in Qara-Chokh Mountain in the southeast of Nineveh's provincial capital Mosul, and the other in Kirkuk province.

The JOC stated that the airstrikes led to the death of seven IS fighters and the demolition of four IS hideouts.

The security position in Iraq has been developing since Iraqi security forces completely beat the IS fighters around Iraq late in 2017.
