Yemen, Houthi rebels accuse UN Envoy of failing to mediate, end war

(MENAFN)UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths has criticized from both rebel Houthis and President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi’s government, while the world awaits moves by new US President Joe Biden to terminate the killing in war-ravaged Yemen.

The two sides charge Griffiths, a former British diplomat, of choosing sides, rather than meditating to get peace to the country. Appointed in February 2018, he has spent three years running as a special envoy for the UN secretary-general to get peace in Yemen.

As Houthis charge Griffiths of being biased towards the Saudi-Emirati coalition, his call on the US to overturn its recent decision designating the Houthis a foreign terrorist organization has irritated the internationally recognized Hadi government.
