Iraq: Army force kills 2 IS fighters, detains 6

(MENAFN) According to the Iraqi armed forces, the Iraqi security forces killed two fighters of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group and detained another six on Saturday around Iraq.

Commander of Anbar's Operations Command Nasir al-Ghannam stated in a report that an army force, supported by Iraqi aircraft, assaulted an IS hideout close to the town of al-Garma in the northwest the city of Fallujah, around 50 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, killing two IS fighters.

Spokesperson of the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi army Yehia Rasool stated in a report that the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) conducted actions in the provinces of Kirkuk, Salahudin, Anbar, and Baghdad, which led to the detention of six IS fighters, comprising an IS local leader.

The actions took place as the extremist IS fighters have increased their assaults on the security forces, comprising Hashd Shaabi military, and citizens in the previously IS-governed Sunni provinces, leading to the killing and injuring of dozens.
