Jordan- Birds import halted following cases of avian influenza


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan. 14 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Agriculture suspended import of poultry and their products from a number of countries, following the emergence of new cases of avian influenza among chickens and domestic birds, according to the World Organization for Animal Health's (OIE) official website.
In a press statement on Thursday, the ministry said that the necessary measures were taken and agricultural centers on the borders were notified, while merchants' licenses were revoked.
The ministry pointed out that still allows the import of hatching eggs, day-old pullets, and heat-treated products only, adding that a prior approval from the ministry is required in accordance with the recommendations of the OIE in such cases.
