Qatar's 2nd International Biobanking Conference in March


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar's second International Biobanking Conference 2021 will take place from  March 8 to 10. It is being organised by Qatar Biobank — part of QF-RDI — in partnership with European and Middle Eastern Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB). Supported by BBMRI-ERIC and ISBER, it will be a virtual conference with a maximum capacity of 10,000 participants. 

The theme of this year's three-day conference is 'Biobanking for precision care. Lessons learned from a global crisis - National and international responses and lessons learned from global crises.

It will feature an international group of experts on biobanking, genomics, and personalised medicine from around the world, with a focus on precision medicine care and the lessons learned from global crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Most importantly, the conference will bring Qatar's biobanking community together to highlight their achievements and progress.

Since its launch, Qatar Biobank has so far recruited more than 26,000 participants from Qataris and residents, who have been living in Qatar for more than 15 years, and collected biological samples and information on health and lifestyle from them to make vital health research possible and enable researchers and scientists to conduct medical research on prevalent health issues in Qatar.

'The conference is an opportunity for industry experts to share their experiences of responses for global pandemics and crises, as well as highlighting the system in place in Qatar to fight the global pandemic (COVID-19), said  Board Vice Chairperson of the Qatar Biobank Board and Chairperson of Qatar Genome Programme Committee, Dr. Asmaa Al Thani.

The wide-ranging sessions and presentations are focused on precision medicine care and the lessons learned from global crises such as the global Pandemic (COVID-19). Discussing the newest technologies and trends in the global biobanking sector supports the progress of precision medicine in Qatar and around the world.

'The conference is bringing together leading scientists, researchers, industry experts, biobanking and genomics experts and students from Qatar and around the world to discuss precision medicine and responses global crisis affecting the biobanking industry and to encourage best practice sharing in fighting the current COVID-19 virus, said Director of Qatar Biobank, Dr. Nahla Afifi.
