(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The opening of the fifth edition of the Qatar Chamber-sponsored Merwad Exhibition Friday is a testimony of how Qatar's private sector hurdled the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a Chamber official.
'Holding this expo in this time affirms that the private sector has bypassed the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, said Qatar Chamber board member Ibtihaj al-Ahmadani during the exhibition, which will run until January 5 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC). It is organised by Vogue Event Company.

Al-Ahmadani, who is also chairperson of the Qatari Businesswomen Forum, noted that Qatar 'has successfully managed the health crisis by adopting precautionary measures aimed at preserving the health of the people and protecting the economy.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the expo, al-Ahmadani said: 'The Merwad exhibition is always a special gathering, which is why we decided to inaugurate the fifth edition of the expo as the first event to be held in Qatar for 2021. Every year, I am amazed by what the participating exhibitors are showcasing at the event, she said.
'Qatar's economy is strong; Qatar Chamber supports the country's business community, in general, and especially women in business, through events such as the Merwad Exhibition, where designers' ideas and products are getting better and better, al-Ahmadani noted.
She also lauded the expo's development across its previous editions in terms of the variety of items that showcase innovation and high quality, as well as the large turnout of visitors and the number of exhibitors. She said this assures that the participation of designers from five countries despite the pandemic 'is a testimony of the success of the exhibition since its inception.
Al-Ahmadani underscored the importance of the Chamber's support for businesswomen and entrepreneurs, as well as its role in sponsoring exhibitions organised by Qatari businesswomen and for helping them promote their products inside and outside the country.
She also stressed the significance of the role played by Qatari Businesswomen Forum at Qatar Chamber in encouraging and supporting Qatari businesswomen in the state's economic activity.
Vogue Event Company director Tamader al-Marri said this year's expo witnessed a large participation from Qatari businesswomen and designers from Kuwait, Oman, Turkey, India, and China.
Al-Marri, who thanked the Chamber for its sponsorship and al-Ahmadani for inaugurating the expo, stressed that Merwad 'has become a landmark in the exhibition industry and has managed to achieve success in the previous editions.
She also praised the large turnout of businesswomen and designers, and assured that exhibitions, such as Merwad 'contribute to the expansion of women's role in the national economy.
Held on an area of 6,000sq m, the expo attracted the participation of 130 designers and included 140 pavilions that showcase various types of clothes, abayas, and women's accessories.
