Doha: Two more Qatar 2022 World Cup stadiums are likely to be inaugurated in May 2021. As per Qatar Calendar 2021, published by the Qatar National Tourism Council, the inaugurations of Ras Abu Aboud Stadium and Al Thumama Stadium are marked for May 2021 along with Amir Cup.
It also mentioned that the 80,000-capacity Lusail Stadium, which will host the Qatar 2022 final, is scheduled to open in December 2021.
Qatar has so far opened newly built Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Al-Janoub Stadium, Education City Stadium and refurbished Khalifa International Stadium.
Constructed using shipping containers, removable seats and other modular "building blocks", 40,000-seat Ras Abu Aboud Stadium will be entirely dismantled and repurposed after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The 40,000-seat Al Thumama Stadium will host FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches through to the quarter-finals. Al Thumama Stadium's design represents the gahfiya a traditional woven cap worn by men and boys across the Middle East. The gahfiya forms a fundamental layer of the traditional clothing of the region. It is also a symbol of dignity and independence a perfect analogy for Qatar and the surrounding region.
The design of Lusail Stadium is inspired by the interplay of light and shadow that characterises the fanar lantern. Its shape and façade echo the intricate decorative motifs on bowls, vessels and other art pieces found across the Arab and Islamic world during the rise of civilisation in the region. The venue will become the centrepiece of Lusail a newly built, state-of-the-art metropolis, designed specifically with residents' needs in mind.
