Iran reduces its natural gas exports to Iraq

(MENAFN)According to Bloomberg on Sunday, a spokesman for Iraq"s electricity ministry declared that, Iran has reduced its natural gas exports to Iraq and exposed further reductions due to the Arab country"s failure to pay its toll.

In an interview, Ahmed Moussa stated that, two weeks ago, Iran has cut the amount of gas sent to its neighbor to five million cubic meters (mcm) from 50 mcm.

The official stated that, the Islamic Republic has warned to further slash the gas supply to three million cubic meters a day, and this has improved the likelihood of more electricity shortages in Baghdad and other major cities.

He further said that, Iran began slashing exports to its neighbor, which is OPEC"s second-biggest oil producer after Iraq fell behind on its gas payments. Iraq has a loan around USD2.7 billion in unpaid bills.
