(MENAFN) Special social-distancing rules for Christmas, New Year and the Dec. 14 total eclipse of the sun were rolled out by Chile's administration on Thursday, Dec. 3, in an effort to avert group gatherings amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Administration representative Jaime Bellolio stated at a press symposium that, the special strategies fulfill the necessity to "anticipate and prevent situations" that will aggravate the outbreak.
On Thursday, President Sebastian Pinera prolonged a state of catastrophe for the third time.
Driven by holiday season mingling, the 90-day prolonging to the state of emergency, which was announced over 8 months ago, came amidst fears that Chile may experience a second wave of cases in early 2021.
