NW Tanzanian road mishap leaves 8 killed


(MENAFN) Police said on Monday that more than eight people have been murdered and six others wounded on Sunday evening after a commuter bus overturned on a steep slope in Tanzania's northwest municipality of Bukoba in Kagera region.

Preliminary investigations showed that the commuter bus overturned on Sunday at 7:40 p.m. after its breaks failed when descending on a steep slope, according to Revocatus Malimi, the Kagera regional police commander.

Xinhua news agency quoted Malimi as saying that "Six of the victims were passengers in the commuter bus and two were pedestrians who were knocked down on the road."

He said police were holding the driver of the commuter bus who is one of the injured people admitted to hospital.
