Lebanon: rural families to see more proceeds from selling snails

(MENAFN)

Early in the morning, supplied with straw baskets and medium-sized burlap bags, Edmond Akl, his wife Norma and their two children went to fields in Qlaiaa, southern Lebanon to get wild snails.

Apart from Akl's family, many people were enthusiastic in the fields and orchards energetically looking for snails in the rocks and between grasses during the snail season, which was postponed for a lot of weeks this year because of the shortage of rain during October and November.

Snails appear from their shells with the rain of November, stated Georgette Eid, who was looking for snails with her 11-year-old daughter on the borders of Marjeyoun city as cited by Xinhua.

Eid stated: "we wait for this season year after year in search for snails, which are known for their good taste, great health benefits and good financial revenue in light of the current difficult economic crisis in parallel with the outbreak of COVID-19."
