Iraq calls on Int'l community for help against new terrorism threats


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- Iraqi President Barham Saleh on Thursday called on the international community for cooperation against the war on terror and such organizations as borders are being breached and threating national security.
A statement by Iraqi officials said that the remarks were made during a meeting between the President and UK's Ministry of Defense Advisor Sir John Lorimer.
President Saleh said "war against terrorism continues and that international cooperation in fighting these terrorist organizations should continue due recent discovery of threats entering the country.
These extremist terrorist groups taking advantage of unfortunate circumstances to fulfill their goals of unsettling peace and security of societies should be halted, he added.
On his part, Lorimer assured the UK's stance on supporting the Iraqi Armed Forces in training, arming, and necessary assistance in fighting these forces.
The UK is one of the prominent states in its efforts against fighting the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Iraq. (end)
