Doha: The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), Ali Sabt BenSabt, will speak on gas industry outlook of the Arab world during the next public lecture of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which will be held virtually on November 22 (Sunday) at 11:00am(Doha time).

BenSabt, a 40-year veteran of the petroleum industry, will deliver his lecture on 'The Gas Industry in Arab Countries: Reality and Prospects, which is a timely theme given that the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the functioning of the oil and gas industry already beset by oversupply and low-price environment.

Many of the world's biggest oil and gas producers are Arab nations, making OAPEC one of the important sources of global economic stability.

Kuwait-headquartered OAPEC was established in 1968 as a response to the need for long-term interdependence of its members, which currently include Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. Accomplishments of OAPEC include servicing oil projects, creating joint firms, and reaching a high level of coordination.

The GECF lectures and workshops feature policymakers and experts, who are invited to share their knowledge and insights on contemporary issues related to the gas industry and its interconnected domains of geopolitics, economy, and sustainability. These activities form part of the GECF long-term strategy to promote natural gas as the fuel of choice for sustainable development.
