Jordan- 1,600 Covid-19 infections at Aqaba's AIIE garment factory, no local cases, says ASEZA chief

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Aqaba, Nov. 18 (Petra)- Chief Commissioner of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nayef Bakhit, announced the number of Covid-19 infections in an Aqaba International Industrial Estate (AIIE) factory has so far reached 1,600.
The infections were announced based on the medical tests that were administered to the garment workers a week ago, he said, adding that no citizens are working in the industrial facility.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, he said no local workforce has worked in the factory since last July, except for 14 bus drivers who are tasked to commute the foreign manpower from their residence to the factory's site, and have undergone tests, which have all returned negative.
The number of factory workers does not exceed 2,400, who do not work in the face masks' production, but in clothing, according to Bakhit.
Joint inspection teams from the ASEZA and the governorate are working to monitor public safety on the ASEZA's factories, he pointed out.
