Qatar Charity launches 'Warmth and Peace' winter campaign


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Charity has launched its 2020-2021 ‘Warmth And Peace' winter campaign.
Through the support of donors from Qatar, the campaign seeks to reach about 1mn displaced people, refugees, needy and affected people and to assist them in 19 African, Asian and European countries at a total cost of about QR66mn.
The campaign will provide urgent winter aid to refugees and displaced people around the world in Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Jordan, Bangladesh and others by focusing on food, shelter, health and education.
It will also focus on countries that suffer crises and exceptional conditions and countries that face harsh winter in which temperatures reach below zero, in addition to those affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis in asylum, displacement and remote areas.In addition, the campaign will distribute an integrated winter bag for sponsored orphans by Qatar Charity in Kosovo, Palestine, Nepal, Pakistan, Bosnia, Turkey, Albania, Tunisia, Lebanon and Jordan.
In his speech during a press conference, Faisal Rashid al-Fehaida, Assistant CEO for International Operations and Partnerships Sector at Qatar Charity, said the organisation has always dedicated and launched campaigns, to cope with the cold winter by providing supplies needed by the affected groups of displaced people and refugees in the camps, ahead of the harsh winter. Al-Fehaida pointed out that the Qatar Charity campaign to confront the dangers of winter this season is expected to benefit more than 937,000 people inside and outside Qatar, especially refugees, displaced persons, and the most needy segments. The coronavirus pandemic has increased their suffering and help is being provided to them to cope with the cold winter, including food, clothing and means of heating.
He explained that the campaign in Qatar targets workers and includes distribution of a winter bag that contains winter clothes, blankets and others, in addition to food baskets with basic foodstuffs at their places of stay to help them cope with the winter requirements.
Assistance will also be provided to orphans and families with limited income, in addition to organising awareness workshops and conducting medical examinations for them in appreciation of their role in various areas of development.
He pointed out that a number of public, social activities and programmes will be organised in a number of commercial complexes, in addition to screening of films to raise awareness about the situation of refugees in the winter season. It is expected that 16,500 people will benefit from this campaign at an estimated cost of more than QR1.3mn.
For his part, Director of Project Management at Qatar Charity Engineer Khalid al-Yafei said that the campaign aims to provide aid to more than 921,000 refugees and displaced persons who live in tents, temporary housing and poverty-stricken groups across the world in 18 countries in order to meet their needs, especially with the increase in cold wave and to mitigate their suffering at an estimated cost of QR64mn.
Al-Yafei pointed out that the campaign focuses on countries suffering from crises and exceptional circumstances, noting that it seeks to provide meals, food baskets, tents, winter clothes, blankets, heaters and heating fuel for refugees and displaced families to help them cope with the difficult conditions where they live.
He stressed that the relief convoys will continue throughout the winter season to provide the target population with their basic needs, in addition to providing them with the necessary medical equipment, for means of prevention and sterilisation.
Countries targeted outside Qatar include Syria, Turkey, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, Kenya, Tunisia, Chad and Rohingya refugees.
The campaign seeks to provide the essential winter aid needs in five key fields: food, shelter, health, education and non-food items through a number of products needed by the target groups, which are food baskets, winter clothes, blankets, heaters, heating fuel, tents, temporary homes, and other accommodation supplies.
It also aims to provide the necessary medicines and medical supplies during the spread of seasonal diseases to protect the poor, refugees and displaced children, those with chronic diseases and urgent cases, in addition to providing means of prevention and sterilisation against the coronavirus, and supporting the continued education of children and youth in areas of asylum and displacement to ensure that they do not drop out of schools.
Qatar Charity urged people in Qatar and its residents to donate to support the ‘Warmth And Peace' winter campaign, as it is expected that the suffering of the target groups will be doubled this season due to the 
coronavirus.
