(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Nov. 17 (Petra) – The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, in coordination with local and foreign stakeholders, is currently updating Jordan's 2021-2023 response plan to the Syrian crisis (JRP).
Minister Nassir Shriedeh told reporters Tuesday that the move to update the strategy aims to realign it with national priorities amid the coronavirus, contain the impact from the Syrian refugee crisis and support host communities.
"The update comes to communicate and coordinate with the international community and reduce the economic burdens placed on the Jordanian government resulting from hosting the Syrian refugees and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic," He pointed out.
The minister indicated that the process is being carried out in coordination with government stakeholders and UN agencies and donors, noting that the update will help highlight efforts undertaken by the Jordanian government to contain the spread of the pandemic among refugees and in host communities.
The JRP, which will outline the financial impact on the Kingdom's treasury, will include projects that are consistent with efforts being exerted to curb and manage the spread of the pandemic, Shriedeh added.
The ministry said it is coordinating with the relevant ministries to identify the financial requirements of the plan and ensure it complements other national plans, and is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Compact on Refugees, while continuing to follow a resilience-strengthening approach.
The plan also supports a wide range of sectors, including institutional capacity building, education, health, water and sanitation, social protection and justice, shelter, and public services among other areas.
