Qatar- Abusharib clinches Trap gold at Amir Cup Shooting


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Saeed Hamad Abusharib won the Trap event at the 2020 Amir Cup Shooting and Archery Championships at the Losail Shooting Range yesterday.
Tokyo Games-bound shooter Mohamed al-Rumaihi, who is the only Qatari to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games, finished second. Khalid al-Mohannadi, who was joint third place overnight, also qualified for the final and clinched the third spot.
In the medal round, Abusharib shot down 45 targets, while al-Rumaihi hit 43 targets in windy conditions.
'The conditions were tough today. It was a windy day, but I was confident after my qualifying round yesterday. I kept my nerves in the final to win the gold medal of this very prestigious event, Abusharib, who notched a perfect score in one of the three rounds on Friday and repeated the feat yesterday morning in one of the two rounds to qualify for the medal round, said.
Al-Rumaihi was also satisfied with his outing after a long eight-month break. 'I am fine with my result. This is the first competition I am taking part in since March this year, he said.
Al-Rumaihi said the competition was a good tune up for shooters especially for him who is looking forward to his first Olympics. 'The preparations for the Tokyo Olympics have been good. The competition in the tournament was tough as I have competed with some of the top Qataris shooters who have represented the country in the past in top continental events like Asian Games. Saeed is a very good shooter and he did very well today to win the final.
In the women's Trap event, Noura al-Ali came first, Noura al-Mohannadi claimed second place while Khouloud al-Khalaf finished third.
In the youth Trap event, Ibrahim al-Tamimi came first, while Ahmed al-Khulaifi and Mohamed al-Kharraz finished second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, Qatari archer Ibrahim al-Muhannadi clinched the gold medal in the Olympic competition while Ali al-Yazidi won the 30m doubles competition on the first day of the Amiri Cup Archery Championships on Friday.
Al-Yazidi won the silver in the Olympic competition ahead of Ahmed al-Abdi. Abdulaziz al-Abadi was placed second behind al-Yazidi in the 30m event while al-Mohannadi won the third place. In the Olympic Youth Competition, Mohamed bin Khalid al-Thani won first place ahead of Mohamed Mualla al-Mostafwi.
