(MENAFN) Chief economist of the Bank of England, Andy Haldane, has declared that working remotely could suppress creativity and lower productivity if it continues on the long run. He, himself has not been to the office within the previous six months except for two times.
He expressed that the sudden change to working from home because of Covid-19 pandemic had made people happier, but is nowhere near the face-to-face interactions that stimulate creativity and productivity for most workers.
"Mandatory home-working thrust large numbers of workers into an alien working environment- their kitchens, bedrooms and attics," he declared during an online conference, adding: "Productivity, predictably, was hardest hit among those with least prior experience of home-working."
The British government's plan to support the return of workers to their offices in London had come to a crashing halt after the numbers of infections kept increasing, leading to new regulations and encouraging the same workers to stay at home.
